Vixa and her Network Defenders colleagues Win a major fight against Bot Herders Cartels. Please Cast your Vote: "The Realm Citizens Join The Fight" CISCO Security Comic Script by Virginia Benedict
New York, NY - Nov. 2009 - Vixa’s intuitive adaptive and light speed response powers were instrumental in bringing down and capturing two major Cyber Cartels. While three ruthless, competing Cartels were engaged in War Lords activities for dominance and control over several primary domain controllers around planet Earth, Vixa, Wall, Jux, and Trace gained advantage and managed to trace and capture two of the three cartels. The Realm Citizens got on board the fight against Bot Herders and Cyber Criminals. The 10 Finalists are in! Vote for VIXA's powers. With this post I am hoping to start a discussion on the many culprits of data-leak. That is data leak through Social Engineering, through logical environments, and/or through physical trespassing.
Any and all topics releated to data loss, data leak, information assurance, social engineering tactics are welcome in this thread.

I wonder if CISCO is doing maintenance today! I have not been able to load any of the episodes from techwisetv.
Able to load WebEx no problem. Just listened to Jimmy's Security/hacking tools session.... but not the WindowsMedia nor Real Players. It wants me to download an unregistered version of a Windows Viewer. Anyone else having issues?

What are the technical differences and similarities between VoIP and IP Telephony?
Besides the obvious differences, what are the best practices for migrating to either of these voice technologies? What are the primary drivers for chossing one over the other? How can distributed mobile, telecommuting, and office voice technologies be managed. Is hardware device standardization imperative for effective management practices? What are the applications?

Our membership on this continues to grow which is awesome cool but we don't do much with you guys here.... I have much more official Cisco resources available on our new official blog that I hope you will follow (and comment!) on: http://blogs.cisco.com/ciscotalk/cin I can see when you guys click but what we really cherish are the comments and opinions. Let me know what you think - either here or on the blog!

I have been performing Val test fro over a year on my servers, but I need to take the efforts to the next level. I would like to know how to pperfomr router/switches and other layer 3/4 pen test. Pen test for e-commerce servers are pretty straight forward, but the routers and switch layer are a bit different. Could you give me some direction?

Just watched the 2 new video podcasts - Loop Guard with JRP, and Marlowe Fenne's UC talk. I like it - I like it a lot. Due to the package sizing with iTunes the segments must be shorter than audio only - but video really helps with hints like JRP's piece.
There is a greater challenge when trying to express broad strategies like Marlow tackled. The video was there - but IMHO it didn't necessarily add value. I really think this is a good thing to do in a series or installment fashion. So perhaps a UC series would intro the 6.0 neat stuff like MArlow did, and then have 5 or 6 segments released with it that had the nuts/bolts stuff JPR could show (like he did with Loop Guard. Just opening the topic for comments - I'm sure others bring different perspectives. I like the big message stuff peppered with enough optional detail that I could drive an associate to review or even a client. So multi-segment video podcasts seem like a good fit where users could elect to download only the segments they wanted/needed.

| de_great | CUCM - ASA Secure Voice | 4 | Oct 14 2008, 5:46 AM EDT by de_great | ||||
|
Thread started: Jul 2 2008, 5:57 AM EDT

I have been struggling here lately on the topic of how to properly Secure my Voice Network. I heard the PodCast on the ASA implementation and have read that is the way to go. However the how is always left out.... I think a segment on this would be great.
Can you explain in more detail how the ASA 5500 is implemented in the CUCM World. Voice Security is starting to be a reoccurring theme, but I am not finding much information pertaining to the Cisco Recommended Procedures or How tos (if you will.) For Example:What type of ASA is required for what level? When I have a HQ of 2000 Phones and remote sites also with 1000....what should be used at the locations? Is there a Matrix of some sort? How is it implemented (obviously at the network level) but how is the CUCM connected..... via IPSEC with the ASA? Is there an SRND for a ASA Voice environment? Obviously due to the TLS Proxy the ASA is very attractive, but what are the ups and downs compared to GetVPN? For many people dealing with Firewalls and ASA's on a daily basis these questions might seem a little basic, but for people coming from the "Voice" Unified Communications Area there are a lot of things left unsaid. Unfortunately, when installing a CUCM Cluster and the Customer wants a Secure Voice Network.... they do not understand that this is more network security than voice, and it is up to us to magically come up with the answer. This topic of Voice Security is becoming the number 1 issue with large companies today and the only official statement that I find states that we should use the ASA's. Great.... but how? Thanks

Can someone please illustrate where Cisco's Solutions start and stop as related to Green IT? I am not talking hardware [i.e. the Nexus/infiniband/10-40g/VMWare/Consolidated Switching/Energy Efficient Ethernet/LB power down redundant firewalls and hand off to EMC/NetApp storage, and that it can be housed in an APC HD rack/cooling.] I am not asking about Cisco DataCenter energy audits/planning/education. I am asking beyond the hardware or consulting, and static efficiency identification tools, what other Green IT products does Cisco offer? Do you have any real-time datacenter energy management software suites? Are they holistic/agnostic that have visibility into facilities cooling and down to rack and x86 server level? I recognize the product hardware readiness and advancements but do tools exist to leverage them? For example the Tools to help change business behavior and processes like automatically shedding heat/power load on the nights and weekends and restart again when work load increases?

Hi all. I attended the 'Physical Layer interconnects for 10GE' panel at Cisco Live last month and there were a ton of questions about the cost/complexity of moving to a unified fabric in the data center. With so much interest and so many open questions, I think this would be a great idea for a show.
Cisco offers some professional services focused around the cable physical layer for Nexus 5000 through APC. The idea behind the services is to provide best practice recommendations to help prepare your data center to meet 10 G/E specs. Here is a link if anyone is interested in taking a look. http://www.apcc.com/solutions/display.cfm?id=0B58ACFD-5056-AE36-FE17E3B0FE71AE9C&ISOCountryCode=Unspecified

Hi all, I just wanted to pass along some kudos on the Bot Net show. The video didnt work very well at least for myself but the audio was helpful. I understood going in what a bot net was but it was great to hear some ideas on how to protect against them. Keep up the good work.
Thanks,
