Way beyond the dial tone with
Telepresence
Anytime the future is shown in movies or television, it is displayed in the way folks communicate. For example:
- The Jetsons: Way cool video phone
- Total Recall: Another cool video phone were the video looks kinda Rembrandt-ish
- Star Wars: The Holo-Net and the Force if your a Jedi...
- Star Trek: Subspace and the various forms of communicators
- Space 1999: The Okatu! Come on Maya fans let me hear ya out there!
- Blade Runner: Cool video phones...by the way, is Deckard really a Replicant?
- Minority Report: That cool movable screen and retinal ID. Movie sucked but the technology was cool-e-o
- Logan's Run: Trackers/Armbands plus the desire to never have a hand crystal turn black...
There are tons of examples. The thing to note here is the future is determined by how we communicate. We could even look back at the past and see many times history could have turned on a dime if only one message could have been received.
Now enter Telepresence. This is more then just a product for some goober analysist to oohh and ahhh over. Telepresence is the real deal and can really bring the future right to your office.

The only thing I do NOT like about Telepresence is that Robb has not figured out how for us to expense one for the Code Cave yet... But once again, when it comes to going beyond the dial tone one key word stands out, "Presence" TelePRESENCE is really the hot powdery stuff on pork rinds; It is the best!!
This is one product that needs to be seen to be believed. Remember the bandwidth rules here; 4.1 Meg per screen one way. That would mean the three screen unit would require 3 screens X 4.1 or 12M---->out 12M<----in; for a total of 24M. The picture is in HD so make sure you clean your ears and get the boogers out of your nose before the meeting starts.
The real beauty in Telepresence is it's simplicty. We use a nice wide codec (H264) for a really nice 1080p picture. Plus setting up the call does not require a team of geeks to get it going, you just use the telephone and start Telepresence like a plain ole phone call.
Hopefully before long Telepresence will look like the
Holo-Net that the Jedi Councel uses to communicate between planets and systems:
The thing I like about the Telepresence future is one piece jump suits are optional...
