“VoIP Applications: Beyond the Dial Tone”
With the telepresence, is there a way to utilize a presentation for the meeting?
Yes - there is a projector with each Telepresence system. You can connect a laptop to any of the systems, and the presentation is displayed in all Telepresence rooms below the center screen.
I don't want to sound like a shill, but they aren't kidding when they suggest you see it for yourself. Half our staff was in North Carolina and half here in Denver for this meeting and the demonstration was worth the time. (We drove down from Ft. Collins to attend the meeting, a far smaller trip than flying us all cross country.
Very true. I have done the same.
Speaking of a company meeting, is there a limitation to the number of users/people that cisco says it will "accurately" show
You can put 6 at the main table. We have had many conferences with 5-6 people in chairs behind the front group.
Is CUMA another server that is necessary? or another application for the CUCM?
The CUMA for CUMC is another server.
Is cisco still offer the "have a meeting on us" ?
Definitely. Reach out to your local account team and they can assist you with this. You can also register for a meeting at http://www.ciscomeetingonus.com/.
Is there any kind of Whitboard application or support in TelePresence?
Not a true interactive whiteboard at this point. You can certainly plug in a document camera or tablet PC into the VGA port for broadcasting an electronic whiteboard. Integrating a WebEx with a Telepresence function has been very helpful as well.
Just to be clear, once Mobile Communicator becomes available for Windows Mobile 6, I can use MC to connect to my VoIP phone system over the cellular network, onto my local network via the gateway application running on CUCM 6.1. The CUMA, is that included with CUCM 6.1?
CUMA is not included with CUMC. You have to purchase it separately.
Are there any presentations that provide an intro to VoIP, or cover Cisco's VoIP infrastructure?
There is a lot of information on cisco.com. Please start at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ns151/networking_solutions_unified_communications_home.html
Are using PoE switch to power the phone? Are the meeting calls running over multi T-1's or a single T-1?
You can use a PoE switch to power IP Phones. Telepresence bandwidth requirements will depend up the resolution (720P or 1080P) being used. Generally, between 2 and 3 Mbps per screen is used. It is important to note that this bandiwdth does not need to be dedicated bandwidth. Cisco specializes in managing dynamic, real-time apppliations such as voice and video that rely heavily on the quality and intelligence of the network, and run within the network, not on top of it. When Cisoc Telepresence calls are not active, this bandwidth can be devoted to other enterprise appliations. When CIsco Telepresence calls are made, quality of service and bandwidht reservations capabilites int eh network allocate the bandwidth needed.
Does CTS/CUAE support multicast sessions or are all streams unicast?
Cisco Telepresence is Unicast
For TelePresence Are we concerned about the internet bandwidth? OR just the bandwidth to the provider?
Bandwidth connecting the site to the corporate network/provider that connects it to the enterprises other sites.
Can a telepresence meeting mix with a regular video conference?
Yes, with the current release
Major understatement. This solution is expensive. Good but expensive and requires a commitment of space for dedication setups and all the other factors.
Having used the technology and saved the time to travel, it pays for itself very quickly. Another thing it does is provides bandwidth for night usage for centralized backups and data center replication. You're right, there is a cost, but it is definitely worth it for many customers.
How does meeting place relate to telepresence?
MP can be used for the Web conference and to bridge in lots of audio listeners.
How is QoS/COS handled for Telepresence in a converged network?
Just like any other video application. You configure LLQ/PQ on the network.
Does the bandwidth requirement go up when you are connecting multi sites?
The bandwidth requirements where individual units are located remain the same. The bandwidth requirements where the multipoint switch is located increase.
Are you sure the 7970 IP phone is connected to the CTS unit, and not the 3750 switch
It's actually connected to the CTS.
Using the CTS 3000, does telepresence actually track eye movement now like HP's Halo product? And when is the pricing expected to drop?
The Telepresence Cameras don't track. The system was designed to emulate the experience of a real meeting. So the cameras are designed not to track or zoom
When using telepresence, you "buy" the package to include everything (TVs, conference table, to simulate a whole conference room?
Correct, the product is the package
If I use Blackberry and use this application, Do need to have a phone plan? just a data plan?
You need both. For example, you would use the data plan to look up someone in the corporate directory, and then when it needs to dial, you would use the voice plan of the phone. When you think about it, the amount of potential delay and latency involved in backhauling true VOIP over the cell network would be a little challenging.
Is telepresence point-to-point only or could it be multi-point?
It is both. You can have point-to-point - as well as multipoint sessions using the Telepresence Multipoint Switch
I have experienced the telepresence system they are showing, in the Denver Cisco site, and it was very impressive.
Thank you! We are very excited about the technology potential and the success we are seeing in the deployments.
What if Steve page himself and fake the effect that he's helping someone?
Well, you can't stop people from faking the system. However, pages are triggered from different devices than Steve's phone. For example they can be triggered from touch-screen Cisco IP phones or Radianta's location enabled wireless call buttons.
So, that Emergency function is different than CER?
Yes. The Radianta function is different and independent of CER.
Could the emergency call be tied to a floor plan to show where the person is calling from?
Yes, the platform provides many opportunities to tag and send information with the call.
C U A E ?
This is the Cisco Unified Application Environment, an application development platform for Cisco Unified Communications. For more information please see: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7058/index.html
CUAE has to tie into Call Manager, correct? If so, what version thresh hold does the Call Manager have to meet?
CUAE supports CUCM 3.3 through 6.x though the feature set does vary.
Again, referring to 36, will this Gateway be a router or what kind of device?
It's an application that runs on it's own server. The back end of CUCM is called Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage.
Is the CUAE what is now unity? or a separate server?
CUAE is a independant platform from Unity. For more info, please check the following site. If you'd like to explore additional details about how CUAE can assist you, please contact your local account team. http://www.cisco.com/web/developer/cuae/index.html
How well does this integrate with a novell network m
There's no depedency there.
Back to question 36, will this work even when the Windows Mobile device is on a Cellular Network, such as AT&T??
The cellular network is independent of CUCM. There are no dependencies.
I'd like to know how the Personal Queue application works, since it runs on the PC and one would like to queue its incoming calls?
It uses CUAE which is connected to CUCM so it understands what phone to monitor.
When using the Unified mobile communicator on Windows mobile 6 will there be a IPsec client available so i can connect to my ASA5520
It doesn't require a VPN connection.
4Can a single communicator be used without an entire system?
If you are referring to Mobile Communicator, you need the backend system whether you have 1 or many clients.
Where can you download the software for Blackberry?
The client software along with the Server software in the DMZ is purchased from Cisco
What is the name of the application he is demonstrating now?
It's called Beacon Office from Radianta. It sits on top of CUAE from Cisco and leverages the Cisco environment.
What options are avialable once the call is in the Queue in Beacon Office?
You can choose to send a pre-recorded message, text-to-speech message, or answer the call. Forwarding to voicemail is also possible, but is not shown in the video.
Do you have to have CAUD to use the Queue option?
Personal Queue is a feature within Beacon Office, and application suite developed for CUAE by Radianta. You do not need CUAD, but will need the CUAE application server and media engine. You can go to www.radianta.com for more information.
The acronym for acronyms is TLA = Three letter acronyms
another one :Technology License Agreement (TLA) that we use sometimes as well :-)
I understand that Mobile Communicator will be available for Windows Mobile this summer, well, how will this connect to the phone system? My understanding is that you would need some kind of VPN connection, well there is no Cisco VPN client for Windows Mobile...why is that?
It does not require a VPN. There is a gateway that runs in the DMZ.
What version would this client workwith on CCM?
It depends on the application, but in general CUAE apps can work on 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x. Of course there is more functionality exposed in the later versions.
How well does CCM integrate with CRM platforms?
CCM has CRM communications connector for Microsoft CRM. Cisco has also developed connectors for MS Windows and Salesforce.com. Additional integrations are available through third party integrations.
What is the specific of the phone that we can use for VoIP?
It's really application dependent. Some apps, like the one he's demoing right now work with all phones.
Does the CAUD limited to SIP phones or does it work with SCCP phones?
It works independent of protocol.
Is the application builder a separate part number that needs to be purchased by the customer in addition to Call Manager and Unity?
The application builder is free. You can download it from cisco.com after logging in and going to SOFTWARE CENTER / VOICE APPLICATIONS.
Do we need call manager for .wsdl? Do hosted providers support it? it?ititit?this?suppportsupport
WSDL is independent of CUCM. It's a way to define Web apps for other applications to access.
Which phone operating systems does this work on?
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps7290/ps7271/prod_white_paper0900aecd805e696f.html
Is there a roadmap for Streaming Video on the 7970 series to see users that are using VT Vantage or meeting place
The 7970 does not have enough horsepower to stream video. We are investigating putting that capabilities in next-generation phones.
Where can you get a hold of the CUAD program and what does it cost?
The Developer is free. Go to the software center on cisc.com and download it under VOICE APPLICATIONS. You pay for CUAE based on the number of "Instances" which is basically the number of simultaneous invocations of the app once it's deployed.
Is there any security change within 802.11n like from wpa2 to something eles?
802.11N is primarily a performance improvement standard.
Does mobile communicator support blackberry
Yes
Is Unified Apps Designer come with Call Manager?
CUAE consists of this designer tool CUAD and it is all offered as an SDK. Check this website: http://www.cisco.com/web/developer/cuae/index.html At this time, it is not bundled with Call Manager.
Would this App replace Blackberry Enterprise Server?
No, you will still need the Blackberry server. 22
What carriers and phone manufacturers support this application besides Nokia?
Blackberry now and Windows Mobile this Summer.
Does it work with the Blackberry's on the Nextel IDEN network or just the CDMA network?
It uses IP connectivity to transfer data, so whatever way you get IP connectivity is used.
The monitor is not readable. Can do a closer view/magnify?
This is always a challenge given our delivery platform. We are always trying to improve on it while we are shooting but it is not always possible. Thanks for your patience. If you want to see somethign more specific. Try clicking on show notes and add that question to our wiki at www.mytechwisetv.com. You can jump in on the show notes for this particular show."Beyond the Dial Tone"
Any plans to interface with Windows Mobile systems?
Planned for later this year
What plans if any does Cisco plan for handleing QOS for voice and video over the public network ?
In general, the issue with QoS in the internet is at the ingress edge to the network. Today, we've had very good success with traffic shaping and LLQ at the edge.
How is this better than using a laptop? Especially considering screen size and readability?
The idea is not to replace a laptop (I agree with you on the usability)...its about having access to the right data at the right time when you don't have the ability to use a laptop.
Is this a feature of CCM or is it an upgrade option for CCM?
The Mobile Communicator can integrate with your existing CCM environment but it does require additional software and hardware.
Can the mobile client be run on any phone or just a Nokia
Nokia and Blackberry today. Symbian this Summer.
Is Nokia the only phone available?
Nokia and blackberry devices currently
What version of CCM must you have for this?
Version 5 and 6

Is the mobile communications open to only nokia products? is it open to blackberry units?
Currently Nokia and Blackberry devices.
Where is the SCCP client on the cisco web site for the nokia phone?
You have to buy SCCP client. It's called the Nokia Intellisync SCCP Client for CUCM. Part number is: NOK-SCCP-CCM-05= for five user.
Does it work with Blackberry devices?
Yes - there is an extensive list of supported blackberry devices
What is the release date for mobile communicator and what platforms support it?

Does the dual mode start the billing process automatically when leaving the wirelesss network?
Dual more requires manual switch over today. We're working with the carriers for seamless handoff, but it tends to be impractical, and keeping the Wifi turned on all the time hurts battery life. It's a practicality thing.
What version of Call Manager does Mobile communicator supported by. Also is Nokia the only smart phone that supports Mobile communicator?
5.x and 6.x. Nokia and Blackberry are supported today. Windows Mobile this Summer. More data at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7271/index.html.
